A shot of Inspiration

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I received this via email overnight from Jenny at ID Your Child, and thought I’d share it with all of you:

Powerful   Women

Live your life in such a way
that when your feet hit the
floor in the morning
Satan shudders and says,
‘Oh, shit. She’s awake.’

Feedback from a contributor

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

We received a lovely email a couple of days ago from Tania Wright from Green Room Interiors. Here’s what she had to say:

I was thrilled to read my article in its entirety in the latest edition of the BMN Mag, in fact the whole issue seemed to be full of great stuff. I have read it from front to back. I was really impressed with it. I have also had a few positive comments from fellow members about my article. So thanks for the opportunity to contribute.

Tania wrote an ariticle titled “What Does Your Office Space Say About Your Business?” in issue 12 of the magazine. Issue 12 is available now.

Email Etiquette - Love your BCC Field

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Browsing through Small Business Diva, I came across a post about email etiquette. In this post, Donna Marie talks about people who forward emails and leaving huge long lists of names and emails at the top. From the comments posted, including mine, so many people find this annoying.

There is a wonderful tool in Outlook called the BCC field, or Blind Carbon Copy. For me to access it - I have to click on the To field to bring up a box that has the BCC Field showing. Once I’ve put in one address, the BCC field is then visible on the message. I’m sure there’s a way that it’s automatically there, however I haven’t worked out how to do it (any tips… anyone?). This way you can forward an email to many people and not everyone sees everyone elses email addresses. You also don’t end up sending emails with huge long lists of email addresses that annoy people.

So, my advice, become familiar with the BCC field whenever you are sending emails to more than one person, and love your BCC Field.

Weightloss help

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

I know for many business mums, weightloss is an issue, and something on their minds.

While browsing Jenni Markham’s blog, I came across a great new product she has created - a magnetic memo board with 2 very cool weightloss girls featured on it to help you keep track of your weightloss. You can chart your progress for 16 weeks, then if you haven’t met your goal, you can then rub out all the information and start again!

This is a very cool product, and it looks good too. So, if weightloss is an issue, get your hands on this product.

A time management tool for business mums

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

If you’re anything like me, it can be hard to keep track of time and can forget appointments. I remember a few weeks back getting a phone call from my parents office (where I had a meeting) letting me know that the people I was meeting with had arrived & asking where I was!

The girls from A Good Sort posted a great suggestion on their blog. Use your mobile phone to help keep you organised! Most phones, especially more modern ones, have a reminder function. This is a brilliant suggestion and can help us all remember when we have meetings, or even remember to pick up the kids from school (if that’s an issue).

Now I have to find out whether my phone has that function on it (it’s ancient!), or upgrade.

Great marketing ideas

Monday, September 1st, 2008

I see a lot of ideas from WAHMs and business mums in my travels, and thought I’d share some great ones with you.

  • Suz’s Space preloved books - Suzie has created some fantastic magnetic bookmarks to promote her business. These are sent out with orders and used as promotional products in goodie bags. Given what she does, these are perfect promotional products for her business.
  • Spring Style Hunt - This is the brainchild of Anne from Beauty Banquet. In the lead up to this years Spring Racing Carnival, a number of style-based businesses are getting together to promote themselves and each other and give those involved in the hunt some great prizes. This is fun for the customer as well as a great way for the businesses involved to promote themselves.
  • Love Santa - Last year I received a recipe card from Love Santa with a recipe for gingerbread that “Santa will love on Christmas Eve”. This was a great promotional tool as it tied in nicely with the Santa letters on offer as well as being useful. The kids enjoyed making gingerbread in the lead up to Christmas.

These are just three that I’ve found. I’ll share some more in coming posts. If you’ve found a great promotional idea, please let me know.
